Heading2

Thankyou to everyone for the lovely artefacts you have shared with the class. It is always amazing to see how much local history is preserved in our own families. Well done to those of you who have taken time to visit the local batches…you do know there are fossils to be found there if you look hard enough? Always get permission and take an adult with you of course! Our artefacts are presented in the slide show below…now part of our channel alongside the local area pictures (which have been added to by one of our own budding photographers I might add!) Have a look for yourselves :)

Also note that the heading picture at the top of this post now features on our writing blog. We will change this from time to time to feature more of your work.

Taecanet high scores are as follows – I will add names to these when we have a list of screen names sorted!

Unit

High Score
Teeth and eating 17,456
Lights and shadows 27,356
Earth, sun and moon 16,930

Note that I will only count your high scores if you have COMPLETED your journeys…so use your time wisely to finish EFORE you play the games! We will have honours for the best scores when all units are completed. Note that you have only just over a week to complete your work on Taecanet before we move onto spring/summer work…

Finally a useful link…if you want a bit of help learning your tables….and much more…try the MATHS MAGICIAN! Click on the image below :)

See you tomorrow!

Take a look at this….

If you hover your mouse over the screen a series of buttons appear, including pause, mute and so on. At the top right of the screen will be a button labeled “Channel Guide.” If you click on this you currently get a choice of two presentations but we could add to this in future. The two presentations are the slideshow of our local area and a Myst video created as a stimulus for writing.

Remember the Myst video?

We used it as a taster of the rich environments Myst has to offer. You can see scenes from several of the worlds in the Myst series.

Posting all this also shows us we can create and use our own videos and slideshows in our blog – it would be nice to use voices and video to show off our writing in different ways…maybe we can produce some slideshows of our own with our writing included.

Any more ideas?

We have chosen screen names to present our writing – if you visit our classroom you can see who is who!

Blog rules

Like most things in life, blogging can be fun and safe if you have sensible rules for users and visitors. We will spend some time thinking of our own special rules for our blog, but a stroll around the internet reveals that other schools have come up with some excellent ideas! Here is a ‘best of’ list of those that seem pretty good…

  1. Never give out personal details like your full name, address or phone number (if you ever use your real name stick to your first name only)
  2. Don’t use pictures of yourselves or other children
  3. Visit other school blogs as well as your own
  4. Respect others and their contributions – write nice things about the work of others but also suggest ways they can improve
  5. Take care with work so you can be proud of what is published
  6. Use appropriate language – remember it is a school blog!

How about we adapt these or make up our own?

Welcome back!

What a fantastic production of “Macbeth” this morning – I thought our class representative did us proud! The Bristol Old Vic Theatre School actors were amazing and watching your faces as they performed was a real treat. You can find out a little more about what they do HERE.

Do you remember the actor saying that when they forgot their lines, others stepped in and helped instead of leaving them ‘hanging there?’ If you spot someone getting ’stuck’ during a lesson, try and think of ways you can support their learning…the “Stuck Poster” below might help you – can you decide what each person is doing as a result of being stuck? This might make a nice discussion point for our Circle Time on Thursday.

Science Clips

Just one link today – don’t forget to use the Science Clips site if you want to explore and investigate without making a real mess at home! You will notice the 7-11 stuff is now in the KS2 bitesize section HERE.

I hope you are considering some fantastic ideas for contributions to our blog. Get your imaginations going! To finish our second post, let’s have a link to the current homework sheet…hope it’s useful.

Homework Spring 1 Homework for Term 3.

Alt Maths Spring 1 Alternative Maths sheet if you struggle with the original sheet.

Until next time!

Welcome Class 4B to your very own Learning Blog!
Over the next few months we will explore together how using this blog might help our learning.

Hopefully, some or all of us will contribute something…if you would like to, you can via Mr. B at this stage.
We can post our writings, questions, thoughts, pictures and much more here for all of us to see AND access away from class if we like.

To start us off, here are a couple of the wonderful writings from the class using Myst this year…

The water underneath me was rippling and glistening. There was a great creak as we rounded a corner. The golden rocks closed in on me and the water got darker as we rode into the shadows. Finally we came to a halt in front of a spectacular waterfall. The spray flew off it into the cracks in the rocks, making it bubble. There were rocks perched cautiously on the edge of the wonderful waterfall.

The shipwrecked boat stuck up in the rippling and misty water. I was astonished at all of these leather-winged creatures diving into the sea making a splash of foamy water spurt up behind. I walked a bit further forward and looking down I saw a crab nipping at a half-eaten fish on the rusty floor of scattered skeletons. Lying on the shore to the right I saw the skeleton of a monster that had been stabbed by arrows. Right in front of my eyes I saw a ship. I walked up to this mysterious wooden thing. Suddenly I saw that there was a weight lifted ancient lift…

Hopefully we will use this blog to improve our writing…there are lots of places and tools to recommend, like this punctuation pyramid…

You can try it for yourself, HERE

Second to last for this post, here are two reminders of some of the fab sites we are using this term in 4B…please try them!

Taecanet
You can learn at your own pace using the units here and it keeps a record of our whole class and how far we have travelled in our learning, as well as high scores for the games you get to play! Current Units to have a go at include: Teeth and Eating / Light and Shadows / Earth, Sun and Moon. Have a go!

FreeRice FreeRice is a vocabulary “tester”. Every time you click on a correct answer, the website donates money to buy 10 grains of rice. Website advertising provides money for the World Food Programme to buy and distribute the rice.

Finally…we can recommend some sites on here for fun! I hope you have some suggestions of your own we could use in the future. I know some of you like to play chess and we have “Chessmaster” on the board…if you would like to hone your skills further, HERE is a free place to try on the web!

Until next time…have fun learning!
